Tues 17th July '01 - 17.50: Went to interview today at Alan's Cycle Shop. Alan wasn't actually in so his wife, Petra, interviewed me. She seemed very nice. Quite attractive considering her age (I would imagine around 37). She asked me about my previous employment and I said I got the sack from Channel Z. She asked me why, and I said, 'Well, I was having too much time off. But there was good reason, which I can't really go into now.' She didn't seem to mind this. Halfway through the interview she offered me a cup of tea and a slice of home-made fruit cake. Then we discussed salary, and so on and so forth. I assured her that I had been riding bikes since the age of about nine, and we both laughed. She said that Alan would be back tomorrow, when she would ask him about my starting work there (he is at a Cycling Convention in Dusseldorf. Petra said that he was acting as spokesman there. She didn't seem to mean it as a joke. I think he really was a spokesman.) Anyway, fingers crossed for tomorrow. Signed - Ed. Wed 18th July '01 - 16.43: Good news! I got the job. I start next Monday. I went in to the shop this morning and Petra was there. She told me she'd spoken to Alan on his mobile, and told him about me, and that he'd agreed with no problems. Can't wait till Monday now. This will really be good for when I speak to my landlord regarding the rental delay, which is seemingly unavoidable now. I went out to celebrate with John, who is a jobless youth. He's 17 and just hangs around in his sitting room all day playing Playstation games. I've talked to him about developing a life-plan and having some ambitions and dreams, but he doesn't seem to take it in. We went to the park and walked about a bit. I've told him about Channel Z and how I've been sacked, but not anything about our secret things. I haven't told anyone, or spoken of it, be assured of that, sir. Sincerely - Ed |
