Tues 24th July '01 - 21.19 (Alan's birthday): I had a good day today at work. I made my first sale this morning! This married couple came in, both old. They looked in their fifties. He wanted to buy her a bike, because he'd won big time at the bingo. Anyway, to cut a long story short, she tried out almost all the ladies cycles before settling on this aubergine coloured one. Well, she was thrilled to bits with it, and the man was too. He said he owed her a bike because apparantly in 1996 he'd used her old one without her permission - he was in a rush to go somewhere - and unfortunately buckled it irrepairably (cause he was a heavy chap). She laughed at the memory, but confided in me (while he was looking at the cycle lights) that she hadn't been that amused at the time. Anyway, he was writing the cheque out when all of a sudden I remembered that we'd had a delivery of bikes last thing last night which were sale stock for the sale, which starts next week, and I thought this one was probably on sale as well. They looked really pleased. I told them that if they would hang on until the sale they could have the one they wanted for about £30 less. At this point Alan came in from out the back holding his mug of tea (it says 'Alan's Tea' on it, so there's no mistake when making the drinks). He asked what was going on and I told him that I'd just saved this couple some money. The old man said, 'That's good customer service for you!' and was really beaming. His face lit up like a, well, a big chubby candle. Anyway, Alan didn't seem as pleased as I thought he would've been, so I continued serving the couple (who bought some cycle lights - my first sale, not bad eh!). They assured me that they'll be in next week for the aubergine coloured bike. When they'd went out of the door Alan left the shop too, rather hurriedly. Petra later told me that he'd gone home. It must be nice living so close to your place of work. Also, as it was Alan's birthday, we had a big birthday cake, which Petra had made. She told me she thinks I'm doing really well in my first week in the shop. Wed 25th July '01 - 21.05: Received text message from Olivia Destiny. It reads: 'Who ru.? O.' It's quite brief as you can see, sir. I don't know whether to see if I can interview her or not. I know her, but I don't think she likes me. What do you think? (still waiting for expenses money, boss...!) |
