Wed 25th July '01 - 22.04, From Sir Art: Edward, this is Art Chorlton. Would it be possible for you to come and see me at the studios tomorrow? Come at 6pm. Grateful thanks. Come alone, and don't talk to any members of staff when you come. No one is to know the reason for your visit - even you. A.C. (Of course, I'll tell you the reason when I see you. I think that goes without saying doesn't it?) Mon 30th July '01 - 22.34: I have arrived safely in the Lake District, sir. I have put some new info in the 'Tapes' section of the site for you to look at. Hope to speak to you very soon - Ed. Mon 6th August '01 - 22.04: I overslept this morning and was nearly late for work. I think it was because of the exertions of last week. Petra seemed really glad to have me back as the sale is going really well. She said she was glad I was feeling better, and I felt a bit bad for saying I had been ill, but I thought 'Oh well, it's for the greater good' - like you've told me to think before. Alan is away visiting his cousin in America. He really does spend a lot of time away from the shop. I got an email from Hetty on Saturday night when I got back. She says that she overheard Mave's son Bradley talking in the line up in the canteen on Saturday lunchtime. Apparantly he was boasting about how rich he's going to be when Channel Z 'coughs up.' Hetty sounded sad in her email. She said she wants to come and see me. I feel though that she is definitely more use to us staying within the twitchers' nest. What do you think? Petra made me a really nice round of sandwiches for dinner today - cheese and sandwich spread. We had a good laugh. She was telling me all about some of the customers they'd had that last week, including a man who had just come back from cycling across the Sahara Desert. Apparantly his tyres had warped and he'd had to walk 140 km until a helicopter happened to fly over and picked him up. Petra said she thought he was flirting with her, and Alan had ignored it. She said, 'Since we're on the subject, Ed, are you courting?' I didn't know what to say, so I said 'Well no, I don't think so' and turned a bit red. Then she asked me how old I was. I said 'Twenty two' and she asked me if I thought I would be at all interested in older women. I asked her how old was old, and she laughed. I felt rather uncomfortable, particularly as Alan wasn't there, and wouldn't be coming back, so I pretended that there was a customer in the shop and went out to see if they wanted anything. A few minutes later Petra followed me out and said, 'I didn't mean to frighten you, love. It's just, I've got a friend called Anna. She's seen you working in the shop here and she's - well, interested in, er, getting to, acquainted with you, Ed.' I took some chrome polish down off a shelf and began carefully re-pricing it, steadily avoiding Petra's gaze. Just then a customer came in the shop and while Petra attended to him I slipped into the back room. I'm not really used to women showing any attention to me. Olivia Destiny used to try really hard to avoid me when I worked for you. She was really quite stuck up, wasn't she? Petra came into the back room not long after and told me a bit about Anna. She said she is a divorced mother, who is thirty four and looking to settle down with a reliable man. I told her I wasn't sure I was ready to settle down yet, but she was very persuasive. I have agreed to meet Anna tomorrow - she's going to come into the shop. When I got home I immediately logged on to see if I had any emails, from either yourself or Hetty. I hadn't, although I had been selected from a list of thousands as being the lucky winner of a special prize courtesy of something called The Prize Draw Fund. So that was good. I immediately registered my name and address with them and look forward to receiving my free pen. |
