Wednesday 8th August '01 - 17.30pm: I was reading the paper at work, about what Aubrey is saying, and I asked Petra about the kidnap scandal, to try and get a 'man in the street' type view of it, you know. She said she didn't really have an opinion, although she did think it was terrible for an old lady of 69 to be held to ransom. I had to agree really. I told her I knew Mave, and that she was really resilient. I was about to start reminiscing about when I used to work with her - it was quite nice to know something about someone on the main national news (I'm normally quite a bit of a dunce when it comes to current affairs) - when a customer came in complaining about faulty straps on his saddle bags. I couldn't help him really. He needed Alan's specialist help. Petra wanted to know all about my night at the pictures with Anna. I told her that Anna would be coming in later. She didn't though. Petra said, 'So what did it feel like, you know, you two together.' I didn't really get what she was driving at, but she prompted me a bit more. 'Did you feel anything between you two?' I said, 'Well, a bit.' Petra went into the back kitchen to turn the cooker down. She was making some scones. I followed her in, and then told her about the kiss we had in Anna's car. I said I liked Anna. I can't understand why she didn't come in. I was a bit disappointed. I hope I'll see her again. The sale is still going really well. We sold two bikes this morning. Seems everyone wants to go cycling. Well, there are some good trails in the Peak District, aren't there, sir? It's a shame Alan as the joint manager isn't here to enjoy it all. Apparantly his cousin in America isn't very well. Wednesday 8th August '01 - 18.36pm: Ha ha! Have just seen it on the six o'clock news! Did you see it, sir? Aubrey O'Gough campaigning again for Mave's release! I can't believe it! How can he face the cameras, and stand there and say all that - and as if he means it? I mean, he's got some front, boss! Wednesday 8th August '01 - 19.05pm, from Sir Art: I've known him for a long time, Edward. He's extremely clever. We are going to have to be very careful how we deal with this. I'm giving a press conference tomorrow at the station to try and explain our present position. Have you heard from Hetty yet? Will you try to get in touch with her? We need to stop this before the publicity gets silly. |
